A climate lawsuit was won in Germany💚

That denying the climate crisis is not an option anymore is understood by most,

but actually seeing governments acting on it in a way that is sufficient still seems like a hopeful dream for the near future if you look at the current politics around the world.

Yet, a few weeks ago there was a near historical moment in Germany– after having denied many climate lawsuits throughout the years,

the federal constitutional court declared climate protection a constitutional right.

The court ruled that the government must brush up on their measures to manage the climate crisis and must protect future generations from climate change instead of treating it as a fleeting problem that will take care of itself,

therefore inevitably transferring that responsibility and burden to future generations.

The court ruled that the inadequate action that has been taken in this matter will have a negative impact on the freedom of future generations and is therefore “partly unconstitutional”.

The planned measures for lowering emissions from 2031 on were ruled to be insufficient, warranting a need to be regulated more precisely.

Peter Altmeier from one of the current governing parties – the CDU - gave a

“nice speech” on how this court ruling was so important to assure that the freedom of future generations would not be violated as well as how essential the ruling is for the future planning and organization of the economy?!?!

Well, kind Sir, this is a reminder: THIS CHARGE WAS ONE TO RENDER THE MEASURES OF THE CURRENT GOVERNMENT AS INSUFFICIENT AND LACKING PROTECTION OF FREEDOM OF FUTURE GENERATIONS WHICH YOUR PARTY IS A PART OF!! THIS CHARGE WENTT THROUGH BECAUSE OF THE NEGLECT OF THE GOVERNMENT WHICH YOUR PARTY IS A PART OF!!

And now my throat is sore.

And although many entities of politics are still NOT getting it and using it as part of their campaigns and other shenanigans - this is a HUGE, AMAZING step in the right direction and is a preliminary to winning many more climate lawsuits in and outside of Germany.

A step that was only possible because of the amazing, incredible, work of the plaintiffs who spent months and years fighting for equality, a better planet, stopping and identifying all sorts of harmful projects and operations of the government and big corporations in the auto-, agricultural-, pharma-, industrial- and bank lobby, . . .

Some plaintiffs are the environmental protection agency SFV, the environmental protection agency BUND, Greenpeace, German Watch, many individuals of all ages and occupations in and even abroad of Germany.

From professors and senior citizens to loving parents and kids of different age groups.

So, thank you.

Thank you to all who made this possible.

Thank you to the lawyers who drafted this lawsuit.

Thank you for sleepless nights and long conversations.

Thank you for tears of joy and tears of exhaustion.

Thank you for speaking up and taking action.

Thank you for showing up for a cause that is one born from motives of love, compassion, striving for equality and health, for fighting for what is right and inevitably fighting for ALL.

Because fighting for NATURE is a fight in favor of ALL of us,

even in favor of the ones who oppose this cause or work against it.

Let that sink in - A CLIMATE LAWSUIT WAS WON!!
