🔥⚡Extreme temps and the results❄🌀
Have you noticed that temperatures are crazy right now?
If not, here are some examples of what has happened in different areas of this world weather wise:
Germany:
In the matter of one week there were huge differences in temperature.
At the beginning of that week it had -8 C whereas the end of that week had temperatures up to 15 C.
While North Rhine Westphalia had snowstorms the South of Germany was experiencing Sahara-Sand and warm winds.
.
India:
A glacier broke in the middle of winter due to rising temperatures that are causing the Himalayan glaciers to melt at an alarming rate.
Spain:
Madrid was buried under heaviest snowfall in 50 years during Storm Filomena leaving the capital in more than a foot and a half of snow, paralyzing it for days.
Texas:
Deadly Texas winter storm left millions without power amid frigid temperatures resulting in the suspension of water and a family experiencing carbon monoxide poisoning after they had been burning a fire indoors for warmth.
USA:
Concerns about 2021 crop season due to millions of acres in some phase of drought.
Record cold in February may slow down getting spring-fieldwork and planting underway and may trigger crop vulnerability.
These are only a few examples what this year has brought to us as of now.
Because a lot of the times there is talk about global warming instead of climate change,
some people think that this means that temperatures will "only get a bit warmer" around the world.
So when we had a “good winter”in Germany, some people felt relieved in a way and even went so far as to tell climate activists things like:
“It’s snowing. You must be so happy.”
I mean…COME ON.
Climate change is not that simple.
It doesn’t just mean that it will get “a little warmer” everywhere.
It completely throws the entire eco-system off balance.
Extreme temperatures and changes in temperatures are also part of it.
It disturbs the balance of the natural world and affects agriculture, animals, insects, pollination, marine life, …
Here are a few "little things" that have already happened in nature’s kingdom so far this year: Germany:
Germany’s forests have been in a bad shape.
Never since the recordings have as many trees died as they have in 2020.
Trees are now more susceptible to vermin.
Only 21 % of the trees show no sign of vermin or illnesses.
Texas:
More than 4,000 cold-stunned sea turtles were rescued from freezing Texas waters.
Because sea turtles are ectothermic, they rely on external factors for the regulation of their body temperature and become lethargic and unable to swim when the water temperature drops below 10 C.
Other examples I have personally whitnessed:
Horses can’t just change their clothes like we do.
They grow a thick “winter coat” and can’t just shed it quickly.
Temperatures have been changing so rapidly that it becomes extremely exhausting for them.
They can experience exhaustion and circulatory problems.
Bees and other insects are “lured out” by the mild temperatures of one week only to be unable to fly the next because of very low temperatures.
Birds have been coming back much earlier and have been singing outside my window in the mornings in FEBRUARY.
❄🌀🔥⚡
There are countless examples and it is very clear that our behaviors and how we treat nature must change.
Radically.
And if anyone is driven only by money and interest in the industry and economy…
THESE NATURAL DISASTERS COST LIVES AND BILLIONS EACH YEAR TO REPAIR DAMAGES THAT WE HUMANS ARE CAUSING!
Global disasters exacerbated by climate change produced $210 BILLION of losses in 2020 alone.
The U.S. faced record damages and accounted for $95 BILLION of overall losses in 2020.
This list could be longer than the Mississippi river.
THE DAMAGE WE ARE DOING MUST BE STOPPED AND TRIED TO BE REVERSED SOONER RATHER THAN LATER.
We all have to help together and every good action is a good action that counts.
These disasters are so big and show what we as humans are doing to this earth and how we cannot control the results any more.
And that is why it makes me SO MAD to hear things like:
“I don’t buy recycled paper because I don’t like the color.”
! ! ! ! ! !
as excuses to make even minor changes to ones everyday life to try and salvage the situation at least a bit.
It is evident that there needs to be a bigger education on the severity of the situation and a serious reprioritization in this world.
With that sad, I want don’t want you to leave in despair or angry.
I want you to have hope and motivation to be a part of a positive change.
